Cowboy Mouth At Wolf Trap
7/26/2002 - Willie do and Willie don't Willie will and Willie won't Willie takes his time when he plays the drums - Cowboy Mouth!
Friday July 26, 2002:

Cowboy Mouth was great! I totally loved their show. Fighting Gravity opened the show and they were okay - the best part of their show, I think, was when the lead singer started by singing the National Anthem. It was a cool way to get everyone standing up. Their music was okay though, I thought they needed more jazzy stuff and less rock for what they sounded like. But then Cowboy Mouth came on and it was really cool. They had a clip from one of the songs from the Who, I'm not sure which song now but I remember it was neat. Then they played "Light it on Fire" for their opener. I think they played about 2/3 of their album Are You With Me including songs like God Makes the Rain, Take It Out on Me, Laughable, Love of My Life, So Sad About Me, and Louisiana Lowdown. Of course they played Jenny Says, but that was their grand finale. They didn't play much from Mercyland, which in my opinion is their better album, but it was still a good show all around. I believe they played Lovers or Friends and Why You Wanna Do Me? from Mercyland. Before they ended with Jenny Says, they did an awesome cover from the Who, "Who Won't Get Fooled Again". It was incredible. Highlihts of the show: The drummer. He was incredible. He's actually the band's lead guy, he sings and gets the crowd going. He must have lost about 12 drumsticks the entire set. He got the crowd to hug the person next to them, feel like a family. He even walked around the barrier in the crowd and sang at the same time.. He got everyone to maintain clapping hands, etc. It was a very cool vibe from him throughout the entire night. What I didn't understand was the whole throwing the red spoons. But, I guess that's their thing. All in all, an excellent show. I think the only show that can top that is Local H, but I may be wrong. I'd love to see the drummer/singer from Cowboy Mouth team up with Scott Lucas (and while I'm dreaming, Zak Tell of Clawfinger). Who knows? At least they're all still alive! heh.
