Mortal City
Saturday December 3, 2016:

As big of a Dar Williams fan as my girlfriend can get, we found ourselves at The Birchmere for our second Dar Williams show together, but first time at The Birchmere itself. Lucky for us, we knew what to expect and were well prepared for the venue arrangements after reading various Yelp reviews. The Birchmere is kind of quirky having its own line ticket system even after having already bought seats. It's similar to The Arlington Drafthouse that way and the food looked just as terrible and overpriced. Also lucky for The Birchmere, there is a great Sri Lankan restaurant right next door and we managed to have just enough time for an excellent preshow dinner! We ended up just getting drinks and dessert at the club and even that wasn't great. But we were there to see Dar Williams which was fun as usual. She is a great performer and the perfect kind of show to sit down and enjoy because she is more of a storyteller as well as a singer. Songs included Cool As I Am, Iowa, Christains And Pagans, Family, Potheads, and Mortal City. She didn't play Babysitter this time. Barry Lynn was an interesting opening act and he read from a new chapter of his political book about the recent election and how crazy everything is in Washington DC.
