11/30/2009 - Hearing Fever Ray before an Imogen Heap show!
Monday November 30, 2009:

The Sixth and I Synagogue was a venue I had never been to before this week. Too bad I didn't get a spot in Imogen Heap's limo after her post on Facebook around DC during the day (I have four spots left in my limo if anyone has a good idea we can pick you up). This was probably the closest I'll get to seeing Bjork live. I'm pretty used to having my ears perk up during the overhead speaker system preshow music, but this one especially caught my attention, Fever Ray's If I Had A Heart. As if hearing Imogen Heap played before an Elbow show wasn't enough. Back Ted N-Ted was actually her guitarist as well as the opening act and he was pretty good. His set included a song called The War Is Over. Tim Exile was her DJ and it was cool to watch him perform. He even free-styled into Oh come on! when his computer system was frustrating him. He played his The Listening Tree and had very good crowd interaction walking around the venue with his beat machines. I had scoped out the perfect spot on the balcony, front row center. Everything was awesome about Imogen Heap. All the instruments she used, the whirlies that I'd seen Kate Havnevik use online, the noisemakers, and even the little bird she had on her piano. The stage included a tree in the middle with cymbals hanging from it and a wind chime too, with colors for different songs, the most memorable being Canvas, when it was a burning tree, which was very cool to see inside a synagogue. The set included mostly just songs from her latest album Eclipse, a bside called Speeding Cars, and Hide & Seek.
