LDE Rock!
7/18/2003 - Tomorrow I'm going to check out Live On Penn to see The Lloyd Dobler Effect. They rock! I just listened to their CD Ecstacy Sold Here to psych me up for the show. Can't wait!
8/14/2003 - Lloyd Dobler Effect show coming up tonight in Arlington, cover charge is only $5 so yeah. They always put on an excellent show! And after all the crap in Florida, yeah a concert would be kick ass!
9/23/2003 - Blocktoberfest is coming up fast. About time to go see another Lloyd Dobler Effect show! I gotta check to see if Ryan and Courteney are gonna come too or not.
Saturday July 19, 2003:

The opening band Rose sucked. I got their sampler anyway, though. They did a decent cover of Bad Company's song Feel Like Makin' Love but there ya go with covers - they always make the band sound good. They just needed a lot of work, not only on their sound but also their appearance.. what was up with that hair AND her dress? YUCK. Yeah. So Lloyd Dobler Effect came on around 5:30 as they said in their mailing list. The gates did NOT open at 1 (also as it said in the mailing list), they opened at 4. I ended up getting to the show area around 3:30 and waited a half hour, then chilled inside too. Back to LDE - I saw Rusty talking to some fans over by the backstage entrance and I went over to him, said hey. He's awesome (he's the bongos player). I saw Javi walk out from backstage too (he's the violinist). Then finally LDE came onstage. They did Kangol Black, Stranger, and a bunch more originals. I can't remember them all. They opened with No Voy A Llorar and I believe they played Better Than You Ever Dreamed Was Possible. Phil (the singer) dedicated Our Eighth Angel to his mother, who died in '98. They did some song, I don't think it was a cover, but it was INCREDIBLE - called Control or something like that, it was somewhat hip hop, with Rusty doing the rapping. I snagged an LDE sampler when Phil called out about the woman handing them out (there was a huge rush for them, which was good, you could tell people were into it). Then, after the show, I got to hang out with Rusty and Phil again. Phil was so nice, he was looking all over for sampler cds for a coupla fans who missed their chance before. So after two sampler cds and a bottle of water that Phil threw from the stage which randomly landed in front of me (I took a swig of it and passed it on), that definitely made up the $3 I spent. Even $5 when you include the Metro. My only complaints are that LDE didn't do their song Rabies which is classic LDE, Javi wears a bear hat and pretends to bite the other members on stage. The last time I saw that happen at the DC Sessions, he even jumped into the crowd. They did a cover of EU's Doin the Butt which was cool, but I wanted to hear a different cover too. But I loved the show, it was awesome to hear the old guys do their stuff again. And I can't wait until the new cd, sometime at the end of August is when it's coming out, Rusty said. Yeah!
