6/24/2009 - Virginfest is free this year! Must see about getting tickets! Weezer, Blink 182, The National, Franz Ferdinand. Really decent lineup for a free show! I have to get tickets! It's Sunday August 30th at Merriweather!!
6/25/2009 - Got a free Virgin Mobile ticket to see Blink 182, Weezer, The National, and other bands!
8/24/2009 - Gearing up for Virgin Mobile Free Fest this Sunday! The National, Blink 182, Weezer, Taking Back Sunday, Franz Ferdinand, and Jet, just to name a few!
8/29/2009 - Taking it easy before a big festival tomorrow. Should be fun seeing The National, Taking Back Sunday, Weezer, and Blink 182!
8/30/2009 - Saw a bit of everything but standouts were definitely St Vincent, Lee Burridge, The National, Weezer, and Franz Ferdinand. Weezer should have headlined over Blink-182. Bah humbug!
Sunday August 30, 2009:

I was on the road by 10 AM, having planned to pick up Kim from a Craigslist post at 10:30 from Silver Spring. That worked out okay, Silver Spring was on the way anyway. There was no traffic and we got to Merriweather by 11 AM. There was a huge line of people for the main gate so we went to the side entrance after finding really easy and free parking in a building across the street by the mall. The line around that entrance was so much easier and only took twenty minutes to get through, very cool. Once inside, I ran into Kim again right away, but we pretty much kept to ourselves after that. She was working for DC Examiner and was doing interviews throughout the day, so she actually got to interview Taking Back Sunday and Jet. To start the day was Birthday Massacre. The lead singer was way too slutty or too ditzy? Either way, meh! They won the Book The Band contest to play the gig. After that disaster, I made my way over to the dance stage to check out Holy Fuck. I wasn't too impressed there either! No crowd interaction and it was kind of boring. So I made my way back to the same stage I was just at to see St. Vincent. St. Vincent was actually pretty good! I stayed a bit for Wale after but wasn't familiar with him so I took off after half a song or so. He sounded just okay. No matter, Lee Burridge was another highlight of my day, he was great! I was just dancing away in a corner and some random girl started dancing with me and said she couldn't keep up with me! So that was nice but she left too early to get her number. At one point, a circle pit formed during Lee Burridge's set. I also liked Danny Howells. After Danny Howells, I made my way back to the West stage as the Public Enemy crowd was thinning out. Kim held a decent spot for me to see The National. Songs The National played included Start A War and Fake Empire. I also caught a few songs from Weezer's set, including the Sweater Song. I made my way over to check out Girl Talk, but hated it so much, so I made my way back over to Weezer to see the last few tracks which included the Good Life, Beverly Hills, Buddy Holly, and a Should I Stay Or Should I Go cover originally by The Clash. Blink 182 came on after Weezer and swore so much I left two songs into their set. I did see them play Feeling This, though. Franz Ferdinand was way better than I expected and a great way to end the night! I couldn't remember what other song I liked besides This Fire and it turned out to be Take Me Out! Unfortunately by that point it was 10:30 PM and I had to get up to work the next day, and get Kim home, so we left after This Fire and ended up missing Take Me Out. What a fun day!!
