Love Is Easy Nails Are Hard
9/13/2022 - Finally managed to go see another concert this year with my friend Lenka! Melody Gardot was great and we even got to meet her after the show! Not a huge fan of The Birchmere as there are much better venues. But Melody Gardot was not to be missed!
Tuesday September 13, 2022:

I was a bit worried I might not find someone to go with since I had been hanging onto the tickets to see Melody Gardot for a few months and they were at $90 each. So luckily when I was talking to Lenka she got excited and wanted to come and had even heard of Melody Gardot on her own! She picked me up at about 7:30 PM and we got to The Birchmere right on time, a few minutes before Laura Anglade started. I hate The Birchmere's seating policy so much! Luckily, we found decent seats but I wish they had a setup like DC's City Winery instead where you can pick seats online when you buy them. Anyways, Laura Anglade was really very good and much better than I could have thought an opening act would be! Melody said she found her on Instagram and asked her to come along for the tour! She was the perfect opening act. Then, finally, Melody Gardot! She played for about an hour and even got a standing ovation at the start of the show! They came in and played through the crowd, some sort of African Jazz music, then the songs I recognized included: Foolish Heart, C'est Magnifique, Les Etoiles, Obstinada, What Is This Thing Called Love, and my favorite Love Is Easy. The jazz player and pianist and even the drummer were all good and Melody showed so much love for each of her bandmates! She had quite the time coming there to play as her nails got messed up at the salon and they wanted to use glue to fix them! I loved her stories about Paris and getting to perform on the street with Madeleine Peyroux's band after hearing a random Jazz band outside her hotel window! I decided just to have a slice of apple pie and Lenka got a pizza but the prices there are absurd for the food and I thought it wasn't very good food either. Well, at least parking there was free and easy and we got to meet Melody after the show and get a photo! So that thinned the crowd out a bit and we got home really easily, too! What a great show and glad it all worked out but The Birchmere is a hit or miss venue! I will only be back unless it's really worth it! But as for Melody Gardot this time around, I'm so glad I went! I just wish I'd remembered to bring my concert book as she was signing stuff in the meet and greet photo line and I didn't bring anything to have her signed! Oh well, next time!
