Elevation, Heat Is Rising
8/8/2002 - This weekend I'm going to the DC Sessions again and Lloyd Dobler Effect is playing. I had no idea who they are but the mp3s on their website sound great! I can't wait for the show now. It's gonna be so much fun.
Saturday August 10, 2002:

I was so right about the Lloyd Dobler Effect. The concert was amazing! Their songs are great to see live, they really move around a lot on stage and just look so happy playing their music. It's such a relief to finally see a good show! They consist of two drummers (one plays congas), a violinist, bassist, and guitarist/vocals. It's really great stuff. So I got to the DC Sessions Saturday around 5ish just in time to catch the first band, The Emptys. They were all right, I liked their stuff, they had a great saxophonist. Then, the Speaks came on stage. Talk about a rip-off artist! They were formally known as the Speakeasys. Anyways, they sounded like Creed, Rage, and Kid Rock all mixed up - and it just did not sound original. The only song I kinda liked was their last one, Better Off Dead. Oh well. During the Speaks set, I tried to figure out who was in LDE so I could buy one of their cds. They were the only band there who wasn't selling any cds in the merchandise booth. So, I actually did end up seeing the lead vocalist, but I didn't know it was him until they got on stage... but, I met most of them later, so that was good. They were awesome live, like I already said. It was a great performance b/c they had so much energy. I recall one song, Rabies, where the violinist had a bear hat and he went around on stage biting the other band members (or rather, pretending to). He ended up diving off stage into the crowd, too, which was cool. So after the show I went to see if I could find them. I did, and I met 4 out of 5 of the members. They were all really cool, and I bought the cd from Rusty, the percussionist who plays the congas. Phil, the vocalist, came over then and told everyone how he saw Eminem at the HFStival and how Rusty was playing with the X-ecutioners. Anyways, I had a great time! and the cd kicks butt! It's local here in DC, but I'm sure they'll get big soon.
